Agrimonia

Self catering holidays and bed & breakfast in Tuscany
Our organic farm, azienda agricola “Agrimonia”, located in the undulating hills of Tuscany, approximately 3 km from Volterra, offers self catering holiday apartments. The ancient farmhouse, listed in the land registry in 1820, has been exquisitely restored and elegantly furnished preserving the original structure and the architectural features of old Tuscan houses.Agrimonia offers country accomodation for 7/8 persons, self catering and bed and breakfast. The farm provides two confortably furnished apartments with a splendid view over the valley, each with an independent entrance and private outdoor spaces with tables and chairs.Volterra is one of the most important historical hilltop towns in Tuscany, a haven of Etruscan, Roman, Medieval art and architecture. The town is also famous through out the world for its its age-old art of alabaster carving. As Agrimonia is located in the heart of Tuscany, it is just 40 minutes to the coast, 30 minutes to San Gimignano, only an hour drive to Pisa and Siena.
THE FARMOrganic extra virgin olive oilAs the farm was in a state of abandon for many years the fields and the terraces were reclaimed from the invading woodland. Situated at an altitude of 300/350 metres on the eastern side of Volterra, our farm covers an area of about 4 hectars and includes olive groves, cherry and peach orchards. Our produce is organic, grown without any artificial chemicals or pesticides. The variety of olives are a traditional mixture of Frantoiano, Moraiolo and Leccino. The olives are harvested in the first two weeks of November, or as early as the end of October, depending on the maturation of the olives. They are picked by hand, combed from the branches, and collected onto the nets spread beneath the trees. The olives are then placed into plastic crates, each holding about 20 kg which are weighed and stacked ready for transport to the olive press. The olives are kept in a dry environment until they are pressed. This is important to maintain the quality of the final product, because lengthy and incorrect storage can cause fermentation and other damage. Our artichokes
We also organically grow Volterra and San Miniato globe artichokes. The latter is rare: today very few local farmers cultivate this variety, preferring other species. San Miniato artichokes are still available thanks to the ardent determination of a few farmers who still work these soils.
ACCOMODATIONThe spacious apartment, located in the old farmhouse, consists of a rustic style kitchen/living room, a large romantic double bedroom, a second double bedroom and a bathroom with shower. All the rooms lead out onto the garden that offers a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside where there is also a large portico equipped for outdoor lunches or candlelit evening meals. The studio is ideal for couples, even with a small child. Refurbished in Tuscan style, with stone walls and red terracotta tiled flooring, it is composed of a kitchenette, a large, romantic double bedroom, and a bathroom with shower. The portico is inviting for outdoor lunches.
